Creative Director of Immersive Art Exhibitions
“To create immersive worlds of image and sound.
To transform exceptional places through digital art.
To place the audience at the heart of the artwork.
My artistic vision.”
Gianfranco Iannuzzi is a Venetian artist and pioneer of immersive art. He whose work unfolds at the threshold between image, space, and perception.
Trained in sociology and photography, he first approached the world through observation before gradually transforming the image into an environment, and the act of seeing into an experience.
Since the 1980s, his practice has explored the expansion of photography beyond the frame, through multimedia forms where light, sound, and movement converge.
A decisive moment came with his encounter with the quarries of Les Baux-de-Provence: a mineral architecture that became both medium and subject, giving rise to a new language of immersion. Within this monumental space, he has conceived over forty works, shaping a dialogue between image and stone, time and memory.
From Europe to Asia and the United States, his projects are conceived in response to specific sites, revealing the latent narratives of each place. Rather than occupying space, his works activate it—transforming architecture into a living surface of images.
As Artistic Director at Culturespaces, he played a key role in the emergence of contemporary immersive art venues worldwide, notably Atelier des Lumières in Paris, Bassins des Lumières in Bordeaux — currently the largest permanent immersive installation in the world — as well as venues in South Korea, Netherlands, Germany, United States, and Japan.
His works, experienced by tens of millions of visitors, propose not only to see, but to inhabit the image.
